"Seen Better Times"

"Seen Better Times" is my latest oil painting. I've been using the subject of 'time' for the last few years in my fiber work so now it has migrated into my paintings. I love old barns and dilapidated houses because they have so much character and have a story to tell.

Today was my 31st Wedding Anniversary. Ron and I celebrated by dining out at one of our favorite 'high-end' restuarants that we don't visit very often because of the price but the food is excellent! I can't believe we have been married for 31 years.......I still feel like a newlywed.

More on FAD Retrospective

Here are some individual photos of the FAD exhibit that show more of a close up view of the pieces. I've tried to select at least one piece from each person.

The piece here on the left is by Stephanie. It's handmade paper and it's mounted in a plexiglass frame so it was hard to photograph without getting reflections.

The art quilt below of a tornado is by Marilu.

If I knew html I could arrange these photos better but I don't so you will have to excuse the unorganized mess. The photo below in a black frame is a hand painted and hand embroidered piece by Marie.
The sunflower art quilt is by Charlotte.

The framed piece below is a fabric collage of painted and dyed fabric by Jean Ann.

This wool coat is in the gift shop behind the glass wall so it's not a good photo. This is one of Shirley's coats that is made from recycled wool sweaters and she has made the buttons from polymer clay.

The other items in the gift shop are Stephanie's knotted lapel pins that are gorgeous so I'm sorry you can't really see them in this photo.

The two pieces below are by me (on the left) and Stephanie (on the right). Stephanie's is a wet felted piece from wool. Mine is wool that has been wet felted and needle felted.

Below is photo transfer on silk piece by Elia. She grew the carrots in the photo.

This is one of my felted pieces on a painted canvas. In front of the cute little mouse sitting on the table is a typed statement about our exhibit.

FAD Retrospective 2009 Exhibit

Here are photos of the FAD Retrospective 2009 exhibit that is currently on display at ArtzPlace Oklahoma (formerly Studio Mid Del) in Midwest City, OK. It will be on display until March 21.

The FAD Group has 29 pieces hanging on the walls and some work on display in their gift shop. The show looks great in my opinion but of course I'm prejudice since I have 5 pieces on display and all the women involved are my good friends.

We had fun hanging this show with all the curved walls and almost every wall is painted a different color.

This is strictly a fiber art show and contains art quilts, photo transfer on silk, hand made paper collages, embroidery on hand painted fabric, fabric collages, felted wool, wool coat from recycled sweaters, and knotted lapel pins. We have such a variety of fiber work so I hope I didn't leave out anything!
The other artists represented in the exhibit are Shirley Conaway, Jean Ann Fausser, Stephanie Grubbs, Charlotte Hickman, Carla Houston, Marie Miller, Marilu Benton Schwetz & Elia Woods.

Aspen Painting

I just finished this 6" x 8" oil painting of Aspen trees. The paint isn't dry so its a little shiny in places. After it drys I'll add a coat of varnish and the colors will really pop.

The FAD Group installed a fiber art exhibit at Studio Mid Del this past Saturday that will be hanging until March 21st. I forgot to take my camera to get pictures of Stephanie, Marie, Carla, Ron, and I hanging the artwork. The exhibit looks great, even if I say so myself. I have to take some signage on Wednesday so I'll take photos of the show at that time and upload them later this week.

Warmth - Abstract Challenge

This is a wool piece I made for the Abstract Challenge online group. The word for the month was 'Warmth' so this is my interpretation. This piece is ok for the challenge but I'm not pleased enough with the design to take it a step further and finish it. So I'll consider it an experimental piece and put it in my pile of experiments that I might recycle at a later date.

New Year

I've been neglectful and haven't been posting on my blog. I'm still painting and trying to work on a fiber piece in between all of my other duties in the office and organizations that I belong to. I have to work hard to keep all areas of my life in balance.

Here is a photo of my family that was taken by my niece, Jenny on Thanksgiving Day at my sister's new house.

Back row from left to right: Jeff (nephew), Larry (brother-in-law), Sue (sister), me, Ron (husband), Daniel (niece's husband). Next row: Rebecca (Jeff's wife). Front row: Laryssa (Jenny's daughter so does that make her my great niece?), Marshall (my father), Mary Ruth (my mother), Nathan (in mom's lap is my great nephew), and Jenny (niece).
